Where do start? What am I looking to accomplish? Who is going to want to read this? A cynics guide to motivation and self help. Not necessarily the people who attend the seminars or read the books, they’re welcome to join of course, but rather the haters and skeptics. Come on, you know who you are! Yep, you, the one who is rolling their eyes, or annoyed that self-help was mentioned. How am I able to confidently identify who “you" are? Because I was “you” I was one of the haters or skeptics. I still am, at times. So I will just leave this here for you to ponder, you can always be better, there isn’t a defined limit that is the finish line. Assuming that, what you are right now, where you are and what you have, is as good as it gets, is what you complain about, then yes “you”. If you aren’t complaining about anything, then you’re good, I’ll leave it alone. If you rebuttal to anything I say is “But’; then maybe I am right. Now, being “right” should not be confused, for me assuming that I know everything, or assume that I am always right; it is actually the opposite. Knowing that I don’t know everything about anything has allowed me to gain more knowledge and see my past flaws. It is the humility to face something with an open mind that has allowed me to see things clearer and not through the lens of “I know this” or “I know that”. You don’t know; and if you do; you can potentially know more or better. Awhile back people knew the earth was flat, it was impossible to run a 4-minute mile and doctors knew that smoking was good for you. We used to know a lot of things that turned out to be wrong or untrue. This doesn’t make us dumb, maybe a little ignorant but certainly not stupid. We can only be considered stupid when we blindly believe something because we want to, not because commonly held to be true. Many of us look for information to confirm that “truth” or belief we already have, but that is an argument for another time.
